Norman’s Lampeye Killifish Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How many Norman’s Lampeye Killifish should be kept together?
Norman’s Lampeye Killifish are schooling fish and thrive when kept in groups of 6 or more. Keeping them in a group allows them to feel safe, show natural social behavior, and display their full coloration. A small school also reduces stress and encourages active swimming throughout the mid-to-top levels of the aquarium.
Can Norman’s Lampeye Killifish live with shrimp?
Yes, Norman’s Lampeye Killifish are peaceful and shrimp-safe, making them great tank mates for dwarf shrimp like Cherry Shrimp and Amano Shrimp. They typically stay in the upper water column and show little to no interest in bothering bottom dwellers. As long as shrimp have hiding spots and the tank is well-planted, both species can coexist happily.
Do Norman’s Lampeye Killifish need a heater?
Norman’s Lampeye Killifish prefer tropical temperatures between 72°F and 78°F, so a heater is usually recommended, especially in cooler climates. However, in consistently warm indoor environments, they can do well without one as long as the temperature remains stable. Always monitor water temperature to avoid stress or health issues caused by fluctuations.
