The Black Angel Fish (Pterophyllum scalare) is one of the most striking varieties of freshwater Angelfish available to aquarists. With its sleek, velvety black body and graceful fins, this Angelfish embodies elegance and sophistication, making it a standout in any community or planted aquarium. Hardy, peaceful, and highly adaptable, the Black Angelfish freshwater is a perfect choice for hobbyists looking for a bold yet graceful addition to their tank.

Originating from the Amazon River basin in South America, Black Angelfish varieties are selectively bred to highlight their deep black coloration. They are members of the Cichlidae family but are far more peaceful than most Cichlids, making them suitable for community aquariums. Their iconic triangular body shape, long trailing fins, and jet-black appearance give them a dramatic presence that instantly becomes the centerpiece of any tank.

These black freshwater fish can reach an adult size of 6 inches (15 cm) in body length and up to 8 inches (20 cm) in height with fins included. Their uniform black coloration creates a stunning contrast in planted tanks, and when paired with lighter-colored fish, their beauty becomes even more pronounced.

Black angelfish freshwater fish are semi-peaceful and thrive in groups or pairs. While generally calm, they can become territorial during breeding. Ideal tankmates include peaceful mid-to-top-dwelling freshwater fish such as Tetras, Rasboras, Gouramis, Corydoras, and dwarf Rainbowfish. Avoid fin-nipping species that may damage their long fins.
