A selectively bred variety of Ancistrus, the L144A Blue Eye Lemon Pleco is prized by aquarists for both its beauty and utility. Like other Bristlenose plecos, it is a superb algae grazer that helps keep tanks clean while adding color and character. Its bright lemon-yellow body contrasted with piercing blue eyes makes it instantly recognizable and a true showpiece for freshwater setups.

The Lemon Bristlenose pleco remains compact, growing to an adult size of 4–5 inches (10–12 cm), which makes it ideal for smaller aquariums as well as large community tanks. Males develop the classic "bristles" around their snout, giving them an even more distinctive and fascinating look, while females remain smoother and slightly smaller.

Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose plecos are peaceful bottom-dwellers and thrive in community aquariums with other non-aggressive species such as Tetras, Rasboras, Guppies, Corydoras, and Shrimp. They spend much of their time grazing on algae, driftwood, and surfaces, making them excellent natural tank cleaners. Provide plenty of caves, driftwood, and hiding places to support their nocturnal habits and territorial needs, especially for males.

At our Splashy Fish tropical fish store, our Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose Pleco for sale and other freshwater fish for sale are carefully selected and packed with love! Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose Pleco Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How to know if Pleco is eating enough?

You can tell if your Bristlenose Pleco is eating enough by observing its body condition and behavior. A healthy Pleco will have a rounded, not sunken, belly, remain active at night, and leave visible grazing marks on driftwood, glass, or rocks. If your pleco appears thin, hides excessively, or ignores food, it may not be getting enough nutrition. Supplement algae grazing with sinking pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables like zucchini or cucumber to ensure it is eating properly.

What is the lifespan of Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose Pleco?

The Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose Pleco typically lives 5 to 7 years in a home aquarium, though some can live longer with excellent care. Clean, stable water conditions, a balanced diet of algae wafers, vegetables, and protein foods, and a tank with hiding spaces all contribute to maximizing their lifespan.

How long does it take Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose Pleco to reach full size?

The Lemon Blue Eyed pleco grows relatively quickly, usually reaching its full adult size of 4–5 inches within 12 to 18 months under proper conditions. Growth rate depends on diet quality, water parameters, and tank size. Providing regular feeding with nutrient-rich foods and maintaining good water quality helps them reach healthy adult size faster.

They are so cute

I purchased 2 bristlenose plecos for my 75 gallon tank. I have a common pleco who is HUGE and the laziest fish in the tank. Anywho, the albino plecos are VERY small but super efficient. They clear algae from the glass in 1 pass. I am always happy with my fish purchases here. All of the fish in my tank come from Splashy Fish and they are almost 2 years old.
