The Rainbow Vampire Crab (Geosesarma rouxi), one of the most colorful and sought-after Vampire Crab species, is a stunning semi-terrestrial freshwater crab known for its neon purple shell, electric orange claws, bright yellow eyes, and striking blue or red leg patterns. These small, vividly colored crabs are perfect for paludariums, terrarium-style aquariums, and nano setups that blend land and water environments.

Native to the tropical forests and riverbanks of Southeast Asia, the Rainbow Vampire Crab is a semi-terrestrial species that spends most of its time on land while using shallow water areas for hydration and feeding. Unlike most crabs, they thrive in freshwater conditions and do not require brackish water.

The Rainbow Vampire Crab is one of the most visually striking freshwater crabs in the aquarium hobby, known for its neon coloration and glowing eyes. Their carapace typically displays deep purples or iridescent blues, contrasted by vibrant orange or bright red claws and uniquely patterned legs that may feature shades of blue, crimson, or black. Their iconic yellow or white eyes give the species its “vampire” name and create an unmistakable, captivating look. Averaging 1.5–2 inches, Rainbow Vampire Crabs remain compact but extremely colorful, making them standout centerpieces in nano paludariums, terrarium-style tanks, and aquascaped enclosures.

Rainbow Vampire Crabs are curious, active, and semi-nocturnal, spending their days exploring land areas, climbing hardscape, or hiding within leaf litter and driftwood. While generally peaceful, they can be territorial, especially males, so providing plenty of hides and visual breaks is essential. Their behaviors are fascinating to watch: they dig burrows, forage for food, and interact socially within their group hierarchy. When kept in proper ratios of 1 male to 2–3 females, their social dynamics shine, resulting in confident, vibrant crabs that display natural behaviors throughout the day and night.

At Splashy Fish local fish store, our Rainbow Vampire Crabs for sale and other freshwater crabs for sale are tank-raised and acclimated to home aquarium conditions, ensuring you receive healthy, vibrant crabs with strong coloration and full activity. We ship live with care and confidence, backed by our Live Arrival Guarantee.
