Red Racer Nerite Snails (Vittina waigiensis) are among the most vibrant and rare nerite snail species in the aquarium hobby. Native to the streams and coastal regions of the Philippines and Indonesia, these freshwater snails are best known for their bold racing-stripe shell patterns in striking shades of red, orange, and black. Their compact size (up to 1 inch) makes them perfect for nano and planted tanks, while their hard shells and peaceful nature ensure they’re compatible with a wide variety of freshwater setups. As constant grazers, Red Racer Nerite Snails are powerful algae eaters that clean glass, driftwood, rocks, and plant leaves—without harming living plants or spiking bioload.
Why Should You Choose Red Racer Nerite Snails?
Red Racer Nerite Snails combine beauty and performance—making them one of the most sought-after algae control snails in the freshwater aquarium world. Their bright, high-contrast shells stand out in any aquascape, and they provide chemical-free algae cleaning in a low-maintenance, peaceful package. They won’t reproduce in freshwater, so there’s no risk of overpopulation.
Top Benefits:
- Striking red-and-black “racer stripe” shell patterns
- Natural and safe algae control for freshwater aquariums
- No overbreeding—does not reproduce in freshwater
- Excellent for planted tanks, shrimp tanks, and nano setups
- Peaceful and hardy, ideal for beginner and advanced hobbyists
Recommended Tank Parameters
- Tank Size: 5 gallons and up

- Freshwater shrimp like Cherry Shrimp, Amano Shrimp, or Blue Velvet Shrimp
- Small community fish like Fancy Guppy, Rasboras, and Tetras

- Other Nerite snails like Horned Nerite Snails, Zebra Nerite Snail, or Mystery Snails
Avoid snail-eating species such as Puffers, Loaches, and large Cichlids.

- Biofilm and diatoms
- Algae on hardscape, glass, and plant leaves
