Adult Size & Tank Size Guidance

Angelfish are sold small, but don't stay that way — plan your tank around their adult size, not the size they arrive at.

• Adult size: Angelfish typically reach about 6 inches in body length (larger with fins/finnage factored in), and their tall, disc-shaped body needs vertical swimming room as much as floor space.
• Minimum tank size: at least 20 gallons for a single juvenile, 29+ gallons for one adult, and 55+ gallons for a mated pair or a small group — always choose a tall tank over a long, shallow one.
• Water parameters: pH 6.5–7.5, water hardness 3–8 dGH, temperature 78–84°F (25–29°C).
• Filtration & décor: a filter rated for the tank size, plus tall aquatic plants, driftwood, and open vertical space for them to move through.
