Red Mickey Mouse Platy is one of the most popular and beginner-friendly freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby. Named for the distinctive “Mickey Mouse” shape near the base of its tail, the Red Mickey Mouse Platy combines brilliant coloration, peaceful temperament, and hardy nature, making it a favorite for both new aquarists and experienced hobbyists.
Native to Central America and selectively bred in aquariums worldwide, the Mickey Mouse platy is a livebearer closely related to Guppies and Swordtails. This variety features a bright red-orange body with a unique black tail marking that resembles the silhouette of Disney’s iconic Mickey Mouse. Easy to breed, adaptable, and endlessly active, the Red Mickey Mouse fish is an ideal choice for community tanks of all sizes.
The Mickey Mouse platy size averages 2–2.5 inches (5–6 cm), making it a small but lively addition to freshwater aquariums. Their vibrant red coloration, paired with the Mickey Mouse “logo” near the caudal fin, sets them apart from other platy fish varieties. Males are typically slimmer, while females grow larger with a rounder belly, especially noticeable when pregnant.
Mickey Mouse platys are peaceful, social fish that thrive in groups of 5 or more. They are perfect for community aquariums and do well with other peaceful species such as Tetras, Mollies, Guppies, Swordtails, Corydoras catfish, and small Rasboras. Due to their livebearing nature, they reproduce readily in home aquariums, providing a fun experience for aquarists interested in fish breeding.
