The clown loach (Chromobotia macracanthus) is a freshwater fish native to the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Borneo. It is a member of the Cobitidae family of loaches, and is known for its bright orange color and distinctive black stripes. Clown loaches are popular aquarium fish, and are known for their social behavior and intelligence. They can grow to be quite large, reaching up to 12 inches (30 cm) in length in the wild, and they have a lifespan of about 15-20 years. They are generally peaceful fish and can be kept with a variety of other species in a community tank, but they do best when kept in groups of at least three or more.

How to care for Clown Loach?

  1. Provide a suitable tank: Clown loaches need a large tank with plenty of swimming space. A minimum tank size of 55 gallons (208 liters) is recommended for a group of three or more loaches.

  2. Use a good quality, sponge-type filter: Clown loaches are sensitive to poor water quality and need a filter that will provide good filtration and circulation.

  3. Keep the water clean: Regular water changes are essential for the health of your clown loaches. Aim to change maximum 25% of the water each week.

  4. Feed a varied diet: Clown loaches are omnivorous and will eat a variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, live and frozen foods. Feed them a varied diet to ensure they are getting all the nutrients they need.

  5. Provide plenty of hiding places: Clown loaches like to have plenty of places to hide and feel secure, so be sure to include plenty of plants, rocks, and other decorations in the tank.

  6. Keep the temperature consistent: Clown loaches prefer a water temperature of 76-82°F (24-28°C). Be sure to use a heater to maintain a consistent temperature in the tank.

  7. Keep an eye on the water parameters: Regularly test the pH, ammonia, and nitrite levels in the tank to ensure they are within the appropriate range for clown loaches.

By following these tips, you can provide a healthy and comfortable environment for your clown loaches.
