Anubias barteri 'Minima' is a compact and elegant freshwater aquarium plant valued for its narrow, elongated green leaves and exceptional durability. Smaller than standard Anubias barteri but larger than miniature varieties, Anubias Minima offers the perfect balance of size and texture for aquascapes, making it ideal for nano aquariums, shrimp tanks, Betta tanks, and larger planted aquariums.

If you're looking to buy Anubias Minima, this hardy Anubias aquarium plant is an excellent choice for aquarists of all experience levels. Its slow growth, low maintenance requirements, and ability to thrive in low-light aquariums make it one of the most dependable live aquarium plants available. Whether attached to driftwood, lava rock, or decorative hardscape, Anubias barteri 'Minima' creates a clean, natural look that complements any aquascaping style.

As a rhizome aquarium plant, it absorbs nutrients directly from the water column and should be attached to hardscape rather than planted beneath the substrate.

Why Choose Anubias Minima?

  • Perfect for beginners: One of the easiest freshwater aquarium plants to maintain.
  • Excellent low-light plant: Thrives in low-tech planted aquariums.

  • Perfect for Bettas, shrimp, and community fish: Creates shelter and natural grazing surfaces.
  • Slow-growing and durable: Requires minimal trimming while staying attractive year-round.

How to Plant Anubias Minima in Your Aquarium

  1. Rinse the plant gently before adding it to your aquarium.
  2. Attach the rhizome to driftwood, rocks, or aquarium decorations using aquarium-safe glue, cotton thread, or fishing line.
  3. Keep the rhizome exposed above the hardscape surface.
  4. Never bury the rhizome beneath gravel or substrate, as this can cause it to rot.
  5. Allow the roots to naturally attach over several weeks.

Tip: Position Anubias Minima in shaded areas beneath taller plants or driftwood to showcase its vibrant green leaves while minimizing algae growth.

FAQs

Are Anubias Minima plants easy to care for?

Yes, Anubias Minima plants are extremely easy to care for, making them one of the best freshwater aquarium plants for beginners. They tolerate a wide range of water conditions, grow well in low-light aquariums, and do not require CO₂ injection. Their slow growth and hardy leaves mean they require very little maintenance, making Anubias barteri 'Minima' an excellent choice for low-tech planted tanks, Betta aquariums, and shrimp tanks.

How big do Anubias Minima get?

Anubias barteri 'Minima' typically grows 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) tall with elongated leaves that spread gradually as the rhizome matures. Its compact size makes it an ideal foreground or midground aquarium plant for nano aquariums and aquascapes, while larger tanks can use it to add texture around rocks and driftwood.

Do Anubias Minima need substrates to grow?

No. Anubias Minima does not need substrate to grow because it is a rhizome aquarium plant. Instead of planting it in gravel or aquarium soil, attach the rhizome to driftwood, rocks, or other hardscape using thread or aquarium-safe glue. Keeping the rhizome above the substrate prevents rot and allows Anubias barteri 'Minima' to establish healthy roots naturally, making it one of the easiest aquarium plants to maintain.
