Orange Molly Fish (Poecilia Sphenops), also known as Sunset Molly, is a vibrant, beginner-friendly freshwater species prized for its striking orange to golden coloration. Native to warm, slow-moving waters in Central America, this molly has been selectively bred for its color and adaptability. It typically grows to 2-4 inches and thrives in slightly alkaline, hard water with temperatures between 72-82°F. Orange Mollies are livebearers, meaning they give birth to free-swimming fry, making them especially popular among hobbyists interested in easy home breeding. Their peaceful temperament also makes them great additions to community tanks, where they get along well with other non-aggressive fish.

What sets the Orange Molly apart is its incredible hardiness and dietary flexibility. As omnivores, they readily accept both plant matter and protein-rich foods, including algae wafers, flake food, and live treats like brine shrimp. These fish are active swimmers and do best in small groups with more females than males to reduce stress. Because of their high bioload, they require good filtration and regular water changes. Their dazzling coloration, engaging behavior, and low-maintenance care requirements make them ideal for aquarists of all levels looking to brighten up their tank with a splash of color.
